Cincinnati Choral Society presents “Music Down in My Soul”
The Cincinnati Choral Society presents “Music Down in My Soul” which features a cappella arrangements of well-loved American hymns and spirituals, directed by Lisa Peters, CCS Assistant Conductor. The works being presented are arranged by the significant choral figures Robert Shaw (1916-1999), Alice Parker (1925-2023) and Moses Hogan (1957-2003). The unparalleled choral collaboration of Robert Shaw and Alice Parker in the 1950’s and 1960’s produced a large catalogue of arrangements of folksongs and seasonal music as well as numerous hymns and spirituals. Their arrangements are known for their clean compositional structure, simple linear simplicity and dedication to the beauty of the original melodies being used. Their timeless arrangements are staples of the American choral repertoire to this day with choirs of all ages. Among other titles, included in this program will be their arrangements of Amazing Grace and Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.
