With concerns about the coronavirus, many people are hesitant to enter hospitals and doctor's offices, and that may include parents whose children need regular check-ups. But pediatricians are trying to get the word out to families that their offices have been open during the pandemic, and it is still safe to schedule child-well visits.
According to pediatrician Chris Peltier, MD, there has been a decline in the number of patients receiving their childhood immunizations during the first weeks of the stay-at-home order, both in his practice at Pediatric Associates of Mount Carmel in Cincinnati, and nationwide.
Dr. Peltier - a pediatrician, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine professor of pediatrics and Ohio Chapter, American Academy of Pediatrics president-elect - joins Cincinnati Edition to discuss the importance of child-well visits and immunizations under the pandemic.
