Many scientists today agree that race is a social construct with no biological meaning. Yet we are asked, on everything from school applications to employment forms, to declare our race.
The recently-released documentary "" explores how the practice of categorizing race began in America and what affect it continues to have, on both individuals and society.
Professor of Sociology Dr. Joan Ferrante and a group of NKU students produced the documentary, which will have a screening this Saturday at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.
Dr. Ferrante joins us this afternoon, with Interim President Dan Hurley, to discuss the consequences of categorizing race in America.
The film "Mourning the Creation of Racial Categories" will be shown at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center this Saturday, December 9, at 1 p.m. The event is free with general admission and open to the public, but reservations are requested.
