Two Ohio turkeys, part of the presidential pardon flock, got a red carpet welcome from students at the in Lower Price Hill today. They live in Mercer County in a custom-built barn. On Monday Nobember 24th two others will travel to Washington to meet President Obama.
Some kids were inquisitive and others were scared. Lavar, in a line of second graders to see the caged birds said, "I'm scared. I've never seen turkeys before."
Classmate Destiny Bolen held up a turkey feather. "I want to do some research on turkeys."
They and others listened carefully as farmer Cole Cooper explained how he raises them and how he will transport two others to Washington in a week.
Facts about the presidential turkey flock:
- Born in July at in Mercer County, Ohio
- Live in a custom-built red barn
- Two tom turkeys will selected to be The Presidential Turkey (1 is an alternate)
- The turkeys are touring Ohio and visiting schools, including Olyer Elementary
- The turkey pardon will happen next week at the White House
- The turkey doesn't have a name. Submit ideas
- The turkey lives out his days at in Virginia
