Cincinnati officials report they are making progress cleaning up a now closed commercial food waste composting facility in Winton Hills.

The city said on recent visits, odors were mild and localized to the site with no smells off site. By spring, compost material can be used both on and off site.
Compost Cincy operated the commercial food waste composting facility from August 2012 to January 2014. But the operator's failure to comply with state law and city contracts resulted in numerous residents complaining about foul odors.
The city took possession of the site earlier this year. It has now filed a lawsuit against the former owner and is working to recover costs for the clean-up.
