More than a thousand school children gathered at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center Friday to mark Patriot Day by singing the National Anthem.
The effort was part of the . Founder Mia Toschi calls it "a simple yet meaningful event that celebrates citizenship and provides teachers with an activity on 9/11."
Participating teachers were provided free educational resources to teach students about the words, meaning, music, and history of the Star Spangled Banner.
Nationwide, hundreds of thousands of students gathered for the sing-a-long at 1 p.m. It was also an attempt to beat the Guinness World Record for a simultaneous sing-a-long.
