Two road projects start in Cincinnati Monday. Both are expected to cause some traffic problems.
The Marburg Avenue bridge replacement begins Monday. The bridge will be closed for about six months. The 86 year old bridge between Hyde Park and Oakley has been classified as structurally deficient and is in poor condition, according to national bridge inspection standards.
Traffic will be detoured from Marburg to the west on to Paxton Avenue until the new bridge is built. That's expected to be in October. The $2.1 million construction cost is being paid for with state and federal grants.
The work is forcing some changes for Metro local and Xtra service routes:
Route 11 Madison Rd.
- Inbound detour: Via Marburg, right on Wasson, left on Paxton, right on Erie to regular route
- Outbound detour: Via Erie, left on Paxton, right on Wasson, left on Marburg to regular route
Xtra service routes affected:
- 2001 Service to St. X High School
- 2421 Service to Clark Montessori High School
- 2471 Service to Clark Montessori High School
- 3121 Service to Hughes STEM High School
- 4022 Service to Walnut Hills/Purcell Marian High School
- 4023 Service to Walnut Hills/Purcell Marian High School
- 5171 Service to Shroder High School
Downtown construction work will interrupt traffic, and streetcar operations this week.
The concrete surrounding the Cincinnati Bell Connector tracks is damaged in two places along Walnut Street: At Court and at 9th.
Repair work started last night and is scheduled to continue until Thursday. Crews will work day and night to get it done as soon as possible. Because of the work, the streetcar will run, but only on the Over-the-Rhine loop.
The Downtown shut-down means inspectors will have a chance to look at the rest of the track, and utility crews can perform maintenance along the line. During the work, vehicle traffic on Walnut will be limited to two lanes between Court and 9th.
The concrete slabs are under warranty, and the work will not cost the city.
