A large-scale outdoor mural project in Hamilton is putting out the call for artists. StreetSpark is planning three murals for Summer 2019.
Program Manager Jenn Acus-Smith says artists are encouraged to find inspiration in each mural's location.
"There are some suggested themes for the different sites but we really want artists to use their inspiration and come up with something that does respond to the area that the building is in," she says.
since the program began in 2016, including last year's "Left Hander for Life," honoring beloved native son and Reds great Joe Nuxhall.
Acus-Smith says the organization is trying to expand beyond downtown Hamilton to outlying neighborhoods.
The sites include the Booker T. Washington Community Center, Max Stacy Flowers on High Street and Minnick's Drive Thru in Lindenwald.
"This is definitely not a piece of art that would be on a white wall in a gallery," Acus-Smith elaborates. "You're responding to the other buildings in the area and the landscaping."
The deadline for is Feb. 8, 2019. Those wishing to help paint have until March 8, 2019 to apply.
Winning designs will be announced in March or April and the work takes place during June and July.
