The Brent Spence Bridge isn't the only piece of local infrastructure that's carrying more than it was built to handle. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says the I-75/275 interchange is carrying more than twice the level of traffic it was designed for.
The KTC is looking for ideas on how to improve it. A press release from the cabinet says the results of an to design possible improvements. The survey asks drivers how and when they use the interchange and the different exits around it, and what parts have the most problems.
"As Northern Kentucky continues to experience rapid growth, particularly within Boone County and in areas near the Cincinnati-Northern Kentucky International Airport, these problems are expected to worsen unless improvements are made," reads the press release.
The project manager for the study, Mike Bezold, says this is the very beginning of the work that needs to be done. "Once we know what improvements we want to make and have the necessary funding in hand, we will focus on developing detailed project designs and construction plans, as well as performing any necessary right-of-way and utility coordination tasks," he says. "Then we will be able to start working on construction."
Bezold says KTC will present the initial improvement alternatives to the public before making a decision.
