Pets displaced by Hurricane Laura will be available for adoption at .
The Category 4 hurricane devastated many communities across Texas and Louisiana, displacing many animals from their shelters.
Louie's Legacy Animal Rescue partnered up with the to take in 10 out of the 274 pets that were moved from areas of the hurricane's impact. BISSELL Communications Specialist Bri Olson said they had to work fast to get the animals out of harm's way, especially since many of them were in outdoor shelters.
"So much of their kennel space is outdoors, and the record flooding was predicted, and we knew that these pets may not make it," Olson said.
The BISSELL Pet Foundation is working with Louie's Legacy to offer the pets at a reduced rate. Olson said more pets are being adopted during the pandemic, and fostering pets is becoming a popular option, too.
"Fostering is an amazing thing because you're acclimating a pet into the home, rather than it sitting in the four walls of a kennel at a shelter where it’s decreasing every day," Olson said.
As a part of the at Louie's Legacy, the foundation will honor foster-to-adopt cases that start as fosters until Sept. 17. Adoption fees for the pets will be $25. The animals will be microchipped and spayed and neutered.
