Hot dog! That's what fans of the late Tim Hedrick are saying about continuing his popular weekly summer grill-outs.
Hedrick, who died of prostate cancer complications last month, will be remembered by Channel 12 this summer with weekly "Grillin' FOR Tim" cookouts.
"You overwhelmingly thought we should continue to do it, so we will! Grilllin' FOR Tim will continue on Local 12 WKRC-TV this summer," wrote John Gumm, Channel 12's morning meteorologist, on his Thursday.
In less than 24 hours, 88 people posted comments supporting continuing Tim's tradition, and 56 shared the page.
Gumm, a graduate of Glenn Este High School in Clermont County, will broadcast live Friday May 20 at the Eastgate Meijer store, 888 Eastgate North Dr., off Ohio 32 in Union Township, for the first registration to win one of the weekly picnics.
Two more sign-ups are planned: Thursday, May 26, at the West Chester Township Meijer store, 7390 Tylersville Road, near I-75; and Tuesday, June 28, at the Green Township Meijer store, 6550 Harrison Ave.
Ten events will be held at a contest winner's house on Thursdays from June 2 through August 4, from 5-6:30 p.m.
Hedrick started "Grilling with Tim" segments in the early 1990s, after cooking a pot roast in Italian dressing on his deck during a 1991 summer newscast. The phones lit up.
"I was mystified by the response. People wanted to know what I was grilling next," he once told me
