Stars are coming out for the multi-network live "Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief" telethon set for 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 12, shortly after Hurricane Irma could slam into Florida.
Multiple media reports say George Clooney, Beyonce, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Jamie Foxx, Blake Shelton, Julia Roberts, Adam Sandler, Ryan Seacrest, Michael Strahan and newscasters Nora O'Donnell and Matt Lauer will participate in person or in taped messages.
It will be simulcast on ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC and CMT (and likely more networks).
The says "Hand in Hand" will benefit the United Way of Greater Houston, Habitat for Humanity, Save the Children, Direct Relief, Feeding Texas and The Mayor's Fund for Hurricane Harvey Relief (administered by the Greater Houston Community Fund) through the Hand in Hand Hurricane Relief Fund managed by Comic Relief Inc.
Foxx, the actor-comedian from Texas, announced plans for the telethon last week. It is being organized by Houston rapper Bun B and Scooter Braun, talent manager and mastermind of One Love Manchester.
Clooney's participation is no surprise. He organized the 2001 telethon for 9/11 victims called "America: A Tribute To Heroes" and the 2005 telethon for tsunami victims after the Indian Ocean earthquake. The Oscar-winning actor also hosted the 2010 "Hope For Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief" with musician Wyclef Jean and CNN's Anderson Cooper.
For more than 10 years, Clooney has been helping victims of the Sudan civil war, including meeting with President Barack Obama and speaking to the United Nations.
