Former WUBE-FM and WGRR-FM part-time DJ Gina Matthews takes over the 10 a.m.-2 p.m. shift on Dry Ridge classic country WNKR-FM (106.7) on Monday, Sept. 11.
Matthews, a Northern Kentucky resident since grade school, owns and operates her own production company and voices many commercials on local TV and radio. She also has worked for a Lexington radio station.
She replaces Jim LaBarbara, who retired in the summer to in November. Matthews, the mother of three daughters, lives with her family in Union, KY.
"I have worked with Gina in the past. She’s a delightful person and a great addition to the Classic Country 106.7 team. We look forward to her on-air presence, as well as seeing her out and about in the community for personal appearances and live broadcasts," says Peter Zolnowski, WNKR vice president of programming and afternoon drive host. He worked with Matthews at WGRR-FM.
The Dry Ridge station is awaiting Federal Communications Commission approval in the near future for the purchase of Middletown's WNKN-FM (105.9). Northern Kentucky University Regents approved the sale July 19 to WNKR-FM and Grant County Broadcasters, which has served Northern Kentucky since 1992.
WNKR-FM owner Jeff Ziesmann has not announced the format for FM 105.9.
