Versatile radio veteran Gary Jeff Walker takes over WLW-AM's 9 p.m.-midnight slot Monday, Oct. 2, with "The Nightcap with Gary Jeff Walker."
Walker, who came to Cincinnati in 1994 for Clear Channel (now iHeartMedia), says he will continue hosting news/talk 5:30-9 a.m. Saturdays on the station, "so the Friday show may be different."
Walker calls the late-night show "a one month experiment." He told WLW-AM listeners Thursday that "we'll see how this works out."
"The Nightcap" replaces Rocky Boiman, who moved to 3-6 p.m. with Eddie Fingers when Tracy Jones was let go earlier this month. Apparently Boiman's move to afternoons is permanent.
In the late 1990s, Walker was a classic rock DJ on WOFX-FM seven days a week, including hosting "Breakfast with the Beatles" on Sunday morning. At the same time he was doing Saturday morning on WLW-AM, and doing weekday recorded shows by satellite on sister Clear Channel stations in Louisville, San Diego, Atlanta and Rochester. Here's a link to my 2001 Enquirer profile,
Since leaving radio full-time sometime after the sale of WOFX-FM to Cumulus in 2009, Walker has filled in for most WLW-AM personalities as a part-timer around his bartending schedule at Huddle's Café, 628 Monmouth St., Newport.
