Services are 6 p.m. today for former WMUB-FM and WVXU-FM program director John Hingsbergen at Newcomer Funeral Home West Side Chapel, 3300 Parkcrest Lane, Western Hills.
Hingsbergen, 67, died Nov. 28 in Richmond, KY, where he as assistant manager and program director at Eastern Kentucky University's WEKU-FM. Visitation begins at 4 p.m. today, Dec. 4.
The Hamilton native was a 1968 graduate of Stephen T. Badin High School, and briefly was a Roman Catholic priest in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. says he is survived by the mother of his children, Cheri Lawson; daughter Clare Hingsbergen; son Jay Hingsbergen; sisters Emma (Nick) Lucas and Marian (Pat) Gall; and brother Stephen (Cheryl) Proctor.
On Monday Dec. 11, a memorial service will be held 6:30 p.m. at Bluegrass United Church of Christ in Lexington, KY. Visitation there begins at 4:30 p.m.
Original post Thursday, Nov. 30: Radio host and programmer John Hingsbergen died Tuesday in Richmond, Ky., where he was assistant manager and program director at WEKU-FM.
Hingsbergen, a Hamilton native, worked at WVXU-FM and the X-Star Radio Network from 1997 to 2000 and hosted the Thursday "Interconnect" talk show when Xavier University operated a three-state radio network.
After that, he was program director and host at Miami University's WMUB-FM in Oxford from 2000 until 2009, when Miami turned over programming to 海角社区.
He also was news anchor "John Edwards" for WRRM-FM (WARM98) 1983-86, and later worked for the City of Cincinnati's CitiCable TV operation in City Hall.
Before his broadcasting career, Hingsbergen was briefly a Catholic priest. He studied at the Athenaeum of Ohio after graduating from Hamilton's Stephen T. Badin High School in 1968.
In the 1970s, he worked for Hamilton's WMOH-AM, WBLZ-FM and WQMS-FM; Oxford's WOXR-FM; and Dayton's WVUD-FM.
After Miami, he joined West Virginia Public Broadcasting in 2010 as news and public affairs director. He was hired about six years ago by WEKU-FM at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, south of Lexington.
