Residents packed Council chambers in City Hall on April 22, many opposing a zoning change for a development on Hyde Park Square.

Last Wednesday, Cincinnati City Council voted to approve a zoning change for a controversial development in Hyde Park Square.

Many residents of the Hyde Park neighborhood were in opposition to the development, including members of the Hyde Park Neighborhood Council. Leaders from community councils in some of Cincinnati's 52 neighborhoods have expressed concerns that Cincinnati's elected officials are not listening to what they have to say.

But how do city council Members and the mayor balance the concerns of the community with overall need for progress?

On Cincinnati Edition, we discuss the tension between community councils and city officials when it comes to making decisions regarding zoning and development.

Guests:

  • Mark Jeffreys, Cincinnati City Council member
  • Amber Kassem, president, East Price Hill Improvement Association
  • John Zinsser, organizer, Save Hyde Park Square
