The Cincinnati Reds' Trevor Bauer is the 2020 National League Cy Young Award winner. Bauer is the first-ever Cincinnati Reds player to earn the title."It's an incredible honor to win the NL Cy Young, especially in capping off this year with the Reds," Bauer says in a statement. "I am grateful to the entire organization, my teammates and the incredible fans for their support. This design for the Reds Community Fund is very special to me, and my way of saying 'thank you, Cincinnati.' "
The 29-year-old pitcher was selected by the voters of the Baseball Writers' Association of America. He bested Yu Darvish and Jacob deGrom, who were also up for the award. Bauer was the clear selection by a wide margin, receiving 27 first place votes. No other player received more than 5 first place votes.
According to MLB.com, "Bauer led the NL in ERA (1.73), ERA+ (276), WHIP (0.79), opponents' average (.159) and shutouts (two). He ranked second only to deGrom in strikeouts (100) and strikeouts per nine innings (12.3)."
Just last week, and has since been teasing speculation . His agent, however, "has rejected the [qualifying offer] but not the Reds & he looks forward to speaking w/ them & all other interested teams thru Free Agency."
