Over the last 10 years, the group's mission has expanded and it's become a model for similar addiction-related agencies across the state and the country.

Overdose deaths peaked in 2017 in Hamilton County, and were down 31% from that peak last year.

The Hamilton County Addiction Response Coalition and public health agencies say there have been at least two dozen emergency room visits from Dec. 3 to Jan. 2 for overdoses, with three suspected overdose deaths.

A mass of addiction services helped decrease overdose deaths in Hamilton County to about 454 last year. That's the lowest rate since 2017, when the county saw a peak of 570 overdose deaths. A new influx of cash from a recent national opiate settlement will boost those services.

Hundreds of people in Hamilton County continue to die from overdoses. It was 432 in 2020.
