Construction on Cincinnati's first skate park could begin by this fall.

A group of skating advocates is asking the city to consider putting a skate park underneath the I-471 bridge at Sawyer Point.

Skateboarding, roller skating, and other "coasting" will be legal on all sidewalks. Skating in the street will still be prohibited, but will be a civil instead of criminal offense.

Supporters of the idea showed up in droves to public budget hearings over the last couple months.

Advocates say Camp Washington's quirky character and central location make it the perfect spot for the city's first full-sized skate park. Local officials have been receptive to the idea.
